Sanctuary Classics is delighted to announce its brand-new collaboration with exciting young chamber group, Ensemble 360.
Ensemble 360 was formed in 2005 to take up residency with Music in the Round at The Crucible Studio Theatre in Sheffield and has also just confirmed a three-year residency at the University of York.
The members of the group are drawn from France, Israel, Sweden and the UK. Together they create a flexible ensemble featuring wind quintet, string quartet, piano and double bass with the joint aim of extending and exploring the boundaries of programming and performance of chamber music. It is a versatile group with a passion for music from the baroque to the contemporary. Individually, the group members bring together various performance styles including jazz and folk as well as classical.
Ensemble 360 members include cellist Marie Bitlloch, violinist Sara Bitlloch, double bass player Laurene Durantel, flautist Guy Eshed, violinist Donald Grant, bassoonist Benjamin Hudson, clarinettist Matthew Hunt, pianist Tim Horton, viola player Martin Saving and oboist Adrian Wilson.
The group has already impressed audiences and critics with its enthusiasm, drive and musicality, causing The Guardian to comment on the “…talented young soloists known as Ensemble 360. The beauty of this newly recruited band is that it can expand or contract to any number of configurations. Add a selection of guest artists and the possibilities seem endless…But perhaps the most exciting prospect is Ensemble 360’s ability to explore the more esoteric reaches of the repertoire…”
Commented Music in the Round Artistic director, Peter Cropper: “We are delighted to have found musicians of such extraordinary quality…to form the foundation of the future of Music in the Round. They are destined for great things”.
Sanctuary Classics will release the first CD with Ensemble 360 on the ASV Gold label in Winter 2006 featuring works by W.A. Mozart. Further releases will follow in 2007 and beyond.

Our CD of the Month for September is a unique and attractive collection of romantic works for the viola, which includes many rarities and several world premiere recordings. Featuring Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suite in this lesser-known arrangement for viola and piano by famed violist Vadim Borrisovsky, the album also includes many rare pieces, and several composed or arranged by violists such as Lionel Tertis and Borrisovsky. The majority of the pieces on the album are unavailable elsewhere and are performed with great depth of emotion by violist Helen Callus, whose sublime tone perfectly suits the repertoire.
