Our CD of the month for September is a unique and attractive collection of romantic works for the viola, which includes many rarities and several world premiere recordings. Featuring Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet Suite in this lesser-known arrangement for viola and piano by famed violist Vadim Borrisovsky, the album also includes many rare pieces, and several composed or arranged by violists such as Lionel Tertis and Borrisovsky. The majority of the pieces on the album are unavailable elsewhere and are performed with great depth of emotion by violist Helen Callus, whose sublime tone perfectly suits the repertoire.
